He graduated from Bradwell Institute High School and then earned his medical laboratory assistant degree from North Georgia Technical College and graduated from Brewton-Parker College. Donald lives in Liberty County, He has 2 children. 8 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Donald is a life-long member of the Pleasant Grove AME Church in Hinesville.

Donald retired in 2020 as the director of laboratory services at Liberty Regional Medical Center.

Donald L. Lovette currently serves as the County Commission Chairman for Liberty County, Georgia. He was first elected as chairman in 2012 and is serving his third term.
