Clay attended Lowndes High School and has a bachelors degree in finance from Valdosta State University. Clay and his wife Mendi have three children. They attend New Covenant Church in Valdosta.

Clay is currently Vice President of Griner Automotive, and he has worked in several different jobs within the company since 1996.
