Ballotpedia: Derrick McCollum

Derrick is a graduate of North Gwinnett High School. He currently resides in Chestnut Mountain with his wife and five children. Derrick is also an active member of the Braselton Rotary Club. 

Derrick served in the U.S. Marine Corps and continued his career as a firefighter and EMT. He also founded and operates several small businesses. 

Derrick McCollum is the current Representative of Georgia House District 30. He was elected in 2022. He previously ran in the 2020 election for Georgia House of Representatives District 103, but did not win.

Believes only U.S. citizens have the right to vote in Georgia elections and co-sponsored a "constitutional amendment that would enshrine in the state’s Constitution that only US Citizens can vote in our elections." This amendment did not receive enough votes to make it onto the ballot.

Passed House Bill 1105 which includes "immunity provisions for law enforcement officers acting in good faith" and requires the publication of the immigration status of current inmates to "promote transparency and accountability within the criminal justice system."

Plans to increase police funding and retention and said, "In the state budget that took effect July 1, I voted to give officers $4,000 to $6,000 pay raises. We are prioritizing recruitment and retention of these public servants!"
