Debra received her bachelor's degree in English and American Literature from Harvard University. She also received her Juris Doctorate from Georgia State University College of Law. She lives on a farm in Milton, Georgia with her husband, Kevin, and their five children. 

Debra is an attorney and is a small business owner. In 2015, she co-founded Colour, a startup geared toward delivering hair care services to women of color. Before this, she worked as an author and as a news anchor. 

Debra Shigley's campaign for State Representative in State House District 47 is her first entry into politics.
