Marty received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia State University. He lives with his wife in Tyrone, and is a father and grandfather. He currently attends Fayetteville First Baptist Church, where he serves as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.

Marty is the president of The Harbin Agency, an insurance and investments business which he founded in 1977. 

Marty Harbin is currently the state senator representing District 16. He was elected in 2014 and has served five terms. He is chair of the Government Oversight Committee and vice chair of the Insurance and Senate Retirement Committees.
