Jeff Newlin

Kim graduated from Furman University and later received her Master of Divinity from Emory's Candler School of Theology. She lives on a small farm in Stone Mountain, Georgia, with her spouse, Trina, and their assortment of animals, including two Great Pyrenees dogs, goats, bees, ducks, chickens, and a cat. Kim is currently the lead pastor at the Episcopal Church of the Common Ground in downtown Atlanta.

Kim is an Episcopal priest who has served as a college chaplain, consultant, preacher, and parish priest. She has also worked as the Interim Vicar at the Episcopal Church of the Common Ground, engaging with the unhoused community in downtown Atlanta. Additionally, she has been recognized for her advocacy work in criminal justice reform.

Kim Jackson was officially sworn into the Georgia Senate on January 11, 2021, to represent Senate District 41, marking her tenure as Georgia’s first LGBTQ State Senator. She was appointed to serve on the Senate standing committees for Public Safety, Natural Resources and the Environment, Government Oversight, and Agriculture and Consumer Affairs. Prior to her current role, she ran for the Georgia State Senate for the first time to replace retiring Senate Minority Leader Steve Henson.
