Richard earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction from Auburn University's School of Architecture and Fine Arts. He attends Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, and is a husband, father, and grandfather.

Richard has built up his construction company, R.W. Allen & Associates, in Augusta for the past 40 years. He identifies as a small businessman.

Richard Allen is the current state representative for Georgia's 12th district. He was elected in 2014, and serves on the House Committee for Agriculture and House Education and Labor Committee.
