Austin has a bachelor's in business administration in risk management from the University of Georgia. He lives in Tifton, GA, with his wife Vivien and their three children.

Austin is an agent and owner of the Southern Group, Limited Liability Company. He was previously an agent with the Principal Financial Group and the Life of the South Agency from 1992 to 1993.

Austin Scott is currently a member of the US House of Representatives for Georgia’s 8th Congressional District. He was elected in 2010 and has been in office for seven terms. He is the Vice Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit. and a co-chairman of the Congressional Crop Insurance Caucus. He previously was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives from 1996 to 2010.
