Ramone grew up in Augusta, Georgia. He graduated from T.W. Josey High School and holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree in criminal justice from Saint Leo University.

Ramone has over 20 years of experience in law enforcement. He began his career at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, serving in the detention center, Road Patrol, and Traffic Division. He joined the Georgia State Patrol in 2002, where he was promoted to Corporal and served as the Assistant Post Commander in Swainsboro and Washington, Georgia, as well as being assigned to the Counter Terrorism Task Force.

Ramone Lamkin was elected as the Marshal of Richmond County in 2016, becoming the county's first black Marshal.

- Magistrate Courts hear civil cases only in amounts less than $15,000. There are no jury trials in Magistrate Court. 
- Magistrate Courts hear landlord tenant dispossessory cases (i.e. a case where a landlord is seeking an eviction of their tenant) and can order evictions.
