Richard Martin's campaign for County Sheriff in Macon County is his first entry into politics.

Richard Martin is a professor of Criminal Justice in the Department of Leadership Studies at Mercer University. Richard has held various law enforcement roles, such as constable in Indiana and police commissioner in Woodstock, Illinois. Additionally, he served as a merit commissioner for the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and was deputy director of a police training organization in the Chicago area. Before becoming a law enforcement officer, he worked as a high school history and health teacher in Gary, Indiana.

Richard Martin earned his bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety from Lipscomb University in Nashville. Richard has master’s degree in Health and Safety and doctorate degrees in Criminal Justice, Higher Education and Administration, and Health Sciences from Indiana University, Bloomington. Richard has earned two third-degree black belts in mixed martial arts. Richard comes from a family of law enforcement officers, including his father and stepbrother.
