Wayne is from Macon, Georgia. He has a bachelor's degree from Mercer University, a master's in business administration from Emory University, and a doctorate in higher education leadership from Mercer University. 

Wayne is the founder and a partner at Double Eagle Associates, LLC, where he has been since 2001. He was previously the Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer and Chief Operating Officer at the Department of Education's Office of Federal Student Aid. He served in the United States Army from 1974 to 1978. 

Wayne Johnson previously ran for US Representative in Congressional District 2 in 2022, but did not win. He also ran in the 2020 general election for U.S. Senate, but did not win.
