Tamara was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She holds both a bachelor's degree and a master’s degree in nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University and a doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Cincinnati. She is married and has 4 children. 

Tamara is a board-certified family nurse practitioner. She founded The Institute For Employee Safety, She E.O. Tamara is also a professor at The Institute For Employee Safety and serves as a council member for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
