Gregory lives in Fairfield, Ohio. He is married to his wife, Pam, with whom he has two children and four grandchildren.

Gregory previously served as an executive director of the Butler County Transportation Improvement District. He also worked as a Department of Development Services manager at the Butler County Engineer's Office. 

Gregory Wilkens currently serves as the Butler County Engineer. He was elected in 2001 and is serving his 5th term.
