Scotty is a financial services technology manager. He started his career as an accounting manager/director at Turner Broadcasting. He later held various technology management positions in the financial services industry at Checkfree/Fiserv and SunTrust Bank. He and his wife also own a small travel agency, Scoggins Travel, where they book and consult on travel.

Scotty previously ran for the Covington City Council in 2021 and the Newton County Board of Commissioners in 2022 but did not win.
