Samuel earned a bachelor's degree in African American studies from Georgia State University and master's degree in logistics, materials, and supply chain management from the Florida Institute of Technology. He also studied military and strategic leadership and advanced military and operation studies from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. 

Samuel is a logistics professional and retired military officer. He served as a Brigade S-3 Officer, 143 ESC Division G-3 Plans and Collective Training Officer, and Battalion S3 - Operations and Training OIC in the US Army. He served in the US Army and Marine Corps for over 35 years.
