Elaine is a defense attorney and prosecutor. She served on the Atlanta City Council from 1979 to 1989, where she helped with development plans and organized community meetings.

Elaine McGruder previously ran for Tybee City Council in 2021 but did not win. She currently serves on the Tybee Island Planning Commission. She also served on the Atlanta City Council from 1979 to 1989.
