Buford native, Bruce Fricks, graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) with a degree in chemical engineering. After graduation, he and his wife of 27 years, Sandee, moved back to Buford to raise their family because of the wide variety of people and tight-knit community. His oldest son, Josh, graduated from Buford High School (BHS) as part of the class of 2014, and his son, Andrew, graduated from BHS in 2016.

Mr. Fricks joined the Buford City Schools Board of Education through a special election held. His mother had previously served on the School Board and he admired the service she and the Board gave. When the opportunity arose for him to give back to his community, he was eager to help. He strives with every decision he makes on the Board to ensure that every student receives the best education possible.

During his tenure on the School Board, Mr. Fricks feels that as an extrovert he can be a voice of the community. He works diligently to ensure the Board works as a cohesive team to serve the Buford students. With a passion for the performing arts, he is proud that when federal and state funding was cut for the arts programs our School Board ensured continued financial support. His love of music can be heard on his weekly podcast, What the Riff, which discusses “old-time rock and roll” albums.

The Fricks are enjoying travel now that they are empty-nesters. Recently they completed an extensive trip to Europe and are looking for their next destination. As an avid reader, Mr. Fricks is usually reading 2-3 books at a time. His weekends are filled with family time as well as church service. Mr. Fricks is a member of Hamilton Mill Methodist Church where he sings in the choir and serves on their mission committee.
