Professional background

Before taking the bench, Gary worked as an Assistant Legislative Counsel for the Georgia General Assembly and as a legal aide to Lt. Gov. Zell Miller. He opened his own law practice in 1977, focusing on commercial collection matters. In 1984, he was appointed by Mayor Andrew Young as a hearing officer for the Atlanta Bureau of Taxi Cabs and Vehicles for Hire. He also served as a Pro Hac Magistrate Judge and Pro Hac Judge in Atlanta's courts before being appointed as a full-time judge in 2000.

Political background

Gary is currently a judge in the Municipal Court of Atlanta. He was first appointed to the City Court of Atlanta in 2000 and then to the Municipal Court in 2005. He has been continually elected thereafter to serve the City of Atlanta.
