Vivian has lived with her husband Michael in Harper Woods since 1987. They have three adult children.

Vivian is retired after serving 26 years as a high school teacher. 

Vivian M. Sawicki is currently a member of the Harper Woods City Council. She was first elected in 2021 and is serving her first term. She previously served on the Harper Woods Board of Education from 2012 to 2019, where she held the positions of treasurer, vice president, and president. She also served as a District 2 precinct delegate and as a member of the Harper Woods Planning Commission and Ordinance Committee.
