Before taking on this role, he served as the deputy executive director for the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators, where he advocated for superintendents and front-line administrators in Lansing. Earlier in his career, he held various roles in association and private sector settings, representing members and clients before the Michigan Legislature and federal policymakers in Washington, DC.

Since 2017, Peter has represented Ward 4 on the Lansing City Council. He is currently serving his second term. Between 2011 and 2017, Peter served on the School District Board of Education, including as president.
