Mike lived in the Pontiac Knolls neighborhood on Court Street with his father during his teenage years. He attended Oakland University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in political science; he was very active on campus, serving as student body president and vice president. To pay his way through college, Mike worked multiple jobs. Through AmeriCorps’ program at Oakland University, he helped lead after-school and summer youth enrichment programs in Pontiac.
