Brian Hacker moved to North Carolina from California in 2010 and he made the move to Matthews in 2012. He lives there with his wife, Merrill, and they have three adult daughters.

They have three daughters who are busy with their own lives. Since their daughters are out of the home either married or at school, they have Pluma, a Guatemalan street dog (adopted from Guatemala), and one black cat named Screamer to keep them company.
