Maud was born in New York, New York. She graduated from Barnard College in 1993 and earned a J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University in 1998. 

Maud is a trial attorney and legal educator. She served as a public defender in Manhattan and the Bronx for over 20 years. At the Legal Aid Society, she was a senior trial attorney and director of training, where she mentored young lawyers and developed programs to strengthen the justice system. She also taught at Cardozo Law School's Criminal Defense Clinic and co-founded FAIR and PLACE NYC.

Maud Maron ran in the Democratic primary for U.S. House New York District 10 in 2022 but did not win.
