He and his wife, Debbie, have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. He is a former president of the Mesquite Ministerial Alliance. He serves as a mentor for the Poteet High School Football Team and for the Men of Honor Program at Terry Middle School.

Daniel is currently the mayor of Mesquite. He was elected in 2021 and is serving his first term. He is also the city's first Latino mayor. Prior to being elected mayor, he represented District 6 on the Mesquite City Council from 2016 to 2021. He previously ran for the Mesquite City Council Place 4 office in 2013 but did not win.
