Dan Helmer is from New Brunswick, New Jersey. He has a bachelor's degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a master's degree from the University of Oxford, where he was also a Rhodes Scholar. He lives with his wife, Karen, and their 2 sons in Fairfax County.

Dan is a small business owner in Virginia.He previously served as an Army officer for 11 years and has worked with contractors supporting federal agencies. He previously worked as a project leader at Boston Consulting Group (BCG). 

Dan serves as a State Delegate in district 10th district in the Virginia. He was elected in 2020 and is serving his third term.
