Ian Lovejoy was born in West Virginia. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology from Concord University and a master's degree in Sociology from Virginia Tech. He serves as chairman on the Manassas Economic Development & Land Use Committee and is a former president of The Manassas City Public Schools Education Foundation. 

Ian serves as a councilman in the City of Manassas. He was elected in 2012 and has served since.
