Not only is the amount of compost generated exponentially greater with an industrial approach, it also includes the opportunity to create local economy development benefits and jobs as part of the process. I am suggesting that a private commercial composting industry, along with public policy cooperation and support from city hall, could utilize waste of Stonecrest businesses and homes that is currently going into landfills as the raw material for “terraforming” our community into a bread basket of food abundance. City wide composting initiatives and programs are far from a new idea. Many municipalities across the United States have embraced this more evolved approach to closing the wasted loop locally, for reasons ranging from climate change mitigation to other economic opportunities or environmental concerns.
