Lily Cheng-Schulting grew up in Ohio and North Carolina before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts from the University of California, Berkeley. She subsequently earned a Juris Doctor from the Syracuse University College of Law. She is a mother an to two young adults.

Lily is the founder and president of the Disability A-Team of West Michigan, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. She previously worked in Boston with Elders at Risk, an organization dedicated to protecting vulnerable seniors from abuse and neglect.

Lily Cheng-Schulting previously ran for Michigan House of Representatives District 72 in 2020 and District 80 in 2022 but did not win.
