Eric Chung grew up in Oakland and Macomb County, Michigan. He is the son of an auto worker and Vietnamese immigrants. He holds bachelor's degree from Harvard College, and subsequently earned a law degree from Yale Law School.

Eric is a senior lawyer at the U.S. Department of Commerce. He works there implementing the CHIPS and Science Act to bring manufacturing jobs back to Michigan. He previously worked as a 4th-grade civics teacher at a public elementary school, as an attorney in the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice, and as a legal advisor to the Senate Judiciary Committee on the confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
