James Hooper is originally from Detroit, Michigan.

James previously worked in Detroit’s Eastern Market and later worked in the building trades. He also served with Samaritan’s Purse in Liberia, where he led teams rebuilding The African Bible College University and managed a Water Sanitation and Hygiene program near the Côte d’Ivoire border. He additionally worked with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association helping organize a Franklin Graham Festival in Liberia. 

James previously ran for U.S. representative in Michigan Congressional District 12 in 2022 and 2024 but did not win. He currently serves as Chairman of Wayne County.
