Al is a mechanical engineer. He previously worked at the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) in Warren for over 30 years, where he coordinated high-level Army and Navy reviews at the Pentagon and contributed to evaluations. He also conducted automotive safety research at Ford Motor Company and worked in systems engineering at Union Carbide on advanced wastewater treatment technologies. 

Al previously ran for U.S. Representative in Michigan's 13th Congressional District in 2020 but did not win.
