- The learning community council consists of 18 voting members. The council works to help children achieve academic success regardless of their social or economic standing.
- The council uses taxpayer money to create a budget that creates opportunities for the children, families, and the community it works with, including administrative costs, family learning, and early childhood learning.
- The council provides initiatives to meet the needs of students, including instructional coaching, providing preparation for kindergarten, and extended learning during the summer.
- The council requires at least two members to meet with the state’s advisory committee and learning community administrators multiple times a year to discuss various topics, including their community achievement plan, programs, and best practices for improving achievement among all students, including those with achievement obstacles. They also host monthly meetings available to the public.
- A learning community council member is elected in a nonpartisan, subcouncil districtwide election to a four-year term. They must be a registered voter in the subcouncil district they run in immediately preceding the election.
- A learning community council member does not get paid.
