Get to Know Tim

Tim Qorraj came to the United States in 2011 in pursuit of opportunity and progress and now resides in Staten Island. As an active community leader, Tim has dedicated his time to ensuring that both the Albanian community and all Staten Islanders have a voice and access to the resources they need to thrive. He has led the formation of nonprofit organizations that have empowered immigrant families throughout the district.

Born in Kosovo, Tim Qorraj grew up during challenging times in a country torn by conflict. Life tested him early—he lost his father, a veteran, at the age of 13 in war. This tragedy inspired Tim to carry on his father’s legacy by fighting for people’s rights, freedom, and the protection of democracy. Motivated by this drive, Tim pursued a Master’s degree in Criminal Law, equipping himself with the legal knowledge to advocate for his beliefs.

Tim lives in the Staten Island neighborhood of South Beach with his wife, Kathleen Durkin Qorraj , and their two sons, Ronan (9) and Bren (7), who inspire him every day to work harder and dream bigger.

Tim is a small business owner— owner of Skyler Services Group LLC where he provides Renovations , porter and super services and maintenance. As a small business owner, Tim understands all too well the red tape and barriers set by the government. From taxes and licensing to so much more, it has become harder to do business in New York than in other states.

Small business owners are struggling with rising rents, taxes, and regulatory burdens, making it harder to keep their doors open and provide local jobs. I will work to secure and support funding for small businesses in the district.

The cost of utilities, food, and everyday essentials continues to rise, putting additional pressure on household budgets across the state. I will hold private utility companies accountable for high costs and poor grid reliability, and put more money back in your pockets.

We must push for tax relief and responsible budgeting at the state level to ease the financial burden on working families.

We can do so by obtaining state funding for the following items:

Continuing to secure funding for the Staten Island Resident Verrazzano Bridge discount to keep the tolls at $2.75, and working to eliminate tolls on the Verrazzano Bridge

Alleviating congestion on Hylan Blvd by conducting a study to divert traffic and expanding the bus lanes.

Creation of a fast ferry dock in Great Kills to connect Staten Islanders to Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Increasing the service of express buses from Bay Ridge to Manhattan.

Plans to secure funding to support small businesses in the district.

Plans to hold private utility companies accountable for high costs and unreliable electric-grid service.

Advocates for state tax relief and responsible budgeting to reduce costs for working families.

Supports workforce development and good-paying jobs.

Plans to preserve the toll discount for Staten Island residents on the Verrazzano Bridge and work to eliminate bridge tolls.

Economy

Families and businesses have invested in the East Shore. With no assurance that their homes or businesses will be protected if a hurricane like Hurricane Sandy were to strike Staten Island again, families and businesses will abandon the area. We need to support and push for the seawall construction to begin soon.

Our healthcare lifeline in the 64th Assembly District is the Staten Island University Hospital-North. Our hospital serves hundreds of thousands of Staten Islanders, whether it be dealing with an emergency issue, delivering babies, providing rehabilitation programs, or more. I am committed to:  

Fighting for safe staffing at our local hospitals, especially at Staten Island University-North.

Supporting funding to establish an NYC Health and Hospital Express Care Urgent Care to be placed on the East Shore of Staten Island to provide affordable healthcare options to residents.

Securing funding for new hospital equipment and supporting the implementation of EPIC to ensure smooth patient care.

As a father of two boys who currently attend public schools in the district and an active member of the local PTA, I support public education and the retention of our teacher workforce. Our teachers are the lifeline of our community. They are at the forefront of shaping our future leaders. So often, teachers are not provided with the necessary support, whether financial or staffing, to ensure a positive learning environment for our children. This is why I will fight for:

Skyrocketed Housing Costs: With rents and home prices becoming unattainable for many hardworking New Yorkers. We need real solutions to expand affordable housing options and protect tenants. I will work to support and expand programs that help first-time home buyers afford a down payment, and also secure funding for more educational classes to take place in the community so individuals and families can have a more comprehensive understanding of their buying options.
