"I am honored to be appointed to this position and look forward to serving the people of Buncombe County," said Christy. "I will work diligently to ensure that our court system is accessible and efficient for everyone."

Christy: The switch to eCourts is mandated by the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). I have been to counties that already had eCourts to train from the clerk perspective. Additionally, I have built relationships with leaders at the AOC to be able to openly discuss the issues that prior counties have had and how to avoid them going forwards. Also, I have been open with other state and county partners about what I know (and have yet to learn) about the eCourts system. By building relationships and open lines of communication, Buncombe County will be in the best position possible to transition smoothly and effectively this summer.

Christy: The Clerk is the official record keeper, comptroller, judge of probate, judge of special proceedings, and supervisor of 65 people. These official duties of the clerk ensure that the record keeping and judicial functions of the clerk run smoothly to allow the public access to justice and the ability to see public records in a timely fashion. Unofficially, I like to think of the Clerk’s Office as the ambassador of the Courthouse. We are often the first point of contact for the public when it comes to the judicial system. We greet them with a smile and make sure we give them all the information we possible can. We also work with nearly every agency that has business in the courthouse, so by maintaining good relationships, we ensure efficiency for the public.
