Calls for a funding resolution that keeps schools fully funded to meet their needs.

There was one goal for the Buncombe County Board of Education after being given $95.8 million by the county for the next school year.

“Get to a resolution that helps us stay fully funded to meet the needs of our schools,” Board Chair and District 3 Representative Rob Elliot said on Monday.

It’s called an interim budget because what BCS will receive from the state and federal side is still unknown. The board has an idea of what it would want to focus on with what it gets from those two entities.

“Student mental health,” Elliot said. “Student services through school social workers and guidance counselors and the important services they provide. So, maintaining that level of service for our students is important.”

“We may not have everything we want, but we’re able to make it through,” Jackson said. “When emergencies like Hurricane Helene happen, we’re able to make it through.”

Rob is from Fairview, North Carolina. He attended Rocky Mount Senior High School. He has a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master's degree in forestry from Virginia Tech. He lives with his wife and their two children in Fairview.
