Upon Motion by Councilmember Rodney Gordon, seconded by Councilmember
Tommy Hawkins, it was unanimously voted to approve Ordinance #17-24
extending the corporate limits of the City of Kings Mountain, North Carolina – Maliks
International, Inc. – Case No. 2017-VA-1 – Parcel 11597.
Mayor Neisler asked Curtis Pressley to come to the podium as Council wished to
recognize him for his four years of service. He expressed his thanks to
Councilmember Pressley for his service to the City of Kings Mountain and presented
him with a plaque and city watch.

City Councilmember’s Comments and Remarks:
Councilmember Curtis Pressley commented that in light of recent events throughout
the country and in Charlotte, someone has approached him and suggested that it we
rename a road. The road in particular being Kings Mountain Blvd., renaming it after
the late Martin Luther King, Jr. He stated that he was unsure of the process of doing
this, but if it is the council’s pleasure, he would like to look into that and see if it
would be a possibility. It does not have to be that particular road, but somewhere
similar. Mayor Neisler stated that he believed it was a state highway and that he
had tried to change the name of York Road at one time to Ollie Harris Blvd. Due to
addresses and other issues it was difficult. He stated that he would certainly be
happy to look into it and suggested that the Planning Department may have some
recommendations.
