Mike Perdue is a Greensboro native whose story is deeply connected to the community he now hopes to represent on the Guilford County Board of Commissioners. He grew up near the Greensboro Coliseum, attended Guilford County schools and GTCC, and built his career in the same community that raised him.

For 32 years, the Greensboro Coliseum Complex — now anchored by First Horizon Coliseum — has been Mike's professional home. Through decades of hard work and increasing responsibility, he rose into executive leadership and today serves as Director of Facilities, overseeing the demanding facilities and production functions behind one of the region's most important public entertainment complexes. The Greensboro Complex and Tanger Center both currently identify Mike in that leadership role.

Mike is also an entrepreneur who understands government from the perspective of someone who has had to meet a payroll, satisfy customers, control costs and make a business work. He began his working career more than four decades ago as an electrician's helper and went on to build his own electrical contracting company, M&D Electric, which he has led as President for more than three decades.

Mike Perdue currently serves as director of facilities at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. He is also president of M&D Electric, an electrical contracting company, and previously worked as an electrician's helper.

Perdue was particularly critical of county funding for nonprofit organizations. He said people who believe strongly in the work of particular nonprofit organizations should support those organizations themselves rather than require all county taxpayers to support them. “Your tax money should be used for the essential business of county government,” Perdue said.

When government is asking taxpayers for more money, essential services should be getting better — not becoming an afterthought.

Mike believes county government should put core services first and force discretionary spending to compete for whatever remains.

That means examining administrative overhead, nonessential initiatives, duplicative programs, discretionary grants, politically favored projects, and spending that cannot show a meaningful public result.

Meanwhile, the people closest to our children — teachers, teacher assistants, bus drivers, custodians, school-based staff, and principals — are expected to deliver results every day.

Housing & Urban Development

Mike believes public-safety dollars should be focused first on the people and resources doing the work: deputies, detention officers, emergency responders, equipment, training, communications, technology, and the infrastructure necessary to respond when citizens need help.

The Sheriff is an independently elected official, and County Commissioners do not direct Sheriff's Office operations. But Commissioners make major budget decisions that affect staffing, compensation, detention facilities, technology, equipment, contracts, and other resources used by law enforcement and emergency services.

Mike will work constructively with the Sheriff and other public-safety leaders while demanding accountability for the money taxpayers provide.

That means asking whether frontline positions are filled, whether resources are going where they are most needed, whether contracts are delivering results, and whether administrative spending is helping officers on the street or simply growing bureaucracy.
