Banks is currently the sheriff of Burke County. He was elected in 2022 and is serving his first term. Before becoming sheriff, he served as a major (chief deputy) for 15 years.

Supports prosecuting drug traffickers and dealers, while using programs like LEAD (Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion) to help low level drug offenders and users get off of drugs.
