Born and raised in Matthews and a proud graduate of Providence High School

Ken McCool is originally from Matthews. He attended Providence High School. He married Samantha in 2024, and they live in Matthews.

Ken runs a family sports card shop, Ken’s Sports Cards and Collectibles, with his father.

“My goal is to be the voice of this district. This district does not feel that they have a voice up there,” McCool said.

McCool served three terms on the Matthews Commission; he was elected when he was 21 years old. He says now the district is still grappling with Cotham switching parties in 2023.

Said the regional transit plan was inequitable and called for the planned rail service for Matthews.

“I t was not and is not an equitable transit plan for the entire county or region,” Commissioner McCool said.

In a meeting Monday, M atthews commissioners voted unanimously in favor of a resolution opposing the transit sales tax plan. Commissioners would like county and city leaders to go back to the drawing board to come up with a plan that would also fund the Silver Line.

“Hey, we’re supporters of transit but make sure Matthews gets a train that we’ve planned for,” Commissioner McCool said. “T hat’s what our community expects, and what we’ve told our constituents so, let’s make sure we can all get what we want.”
