The council voted 3-2 to award the contract for a pickleball court to Recreational Ventures, Court One, out of Youngsville, with Councilman Brian Leonard and Councilwoman Lisa Benton voting against the project. Leonard said he does not believe either of the funds should be used for pickleball courts. Benton agreed with Leonard before stating: “We are financially very conservative in River Bend and we are one of the healthiest towns in eastern North Carolina because of our conservative nature,” she said. “I believe that we can plan for this and have it done next year, but I do not believe and I am not in favor of doing it right now under the current proposed funding.”
