Meet NCPBA Staff Representative and Lobbyist Brandon McGaha

North Carolina PBA staff representative Brandon McGaha lives in Western N.C., and is married to his beautiful wife, Karla. They have four gorgeous girls. The oldest is married and has given Brandon and Karla their first granddaughter. They enjoy working in their church, camping, sports and their pets. He serves as a board member on the Town of Mills River Board of Adjustment.

Brandon McGaha has a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice from Columbia College and is beginning a master's degree in public administration at Western Carolina University. He lives in Western North Carolina with his wife, Karla, and has four daughters and a granddaughter.

Brandon came to work for the SSPBA in 2018 as N.C. staff representative. He also serves in North Carolina governmental affairs under Executive Director John Midgette. Brandon’s duties for the NCPBA are dealing with member issues such as discipline, use of force and many other situations that stem from their duties. Brandon works as a lobbyist on law enforcement issues in the N.C. General Assembly and around the state.

Brandon was awarded citations for good conduct and bravery under gunfire. Brandon actively serves with the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office as a reserve deputy. Pre-COVID, Brandon traveled with TACTICA Ministries, where they trained special operations units in Central and South America while giving them Christian-centered teachings.

At HPD, Brandon served as a detective and sergeant in the patrol division until 2018. He worked in and supervised specialized units such as SWAT and street crimes. In his 13 years with HPD, he completed FBI-Leeda, Vision Henderson County and other leadership programs.

Brandon began his career with the North Carolina Department of Corrections. He left NCDOC and went to work for the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office. He worked in the detention center as a corporal supervising staff and offenders. Brandon returned home and began working for the Hendersonville Police Department in 2005.

Brandon McGaha works as a North Carolina staff representative for SSPBA and serves as a reserve deputy with the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office. He previously served as a detective and patrol-division sergeant with the Hendersonville Police Department, and worked as a corporal in the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office detention center. He began his career with the North Carolina Department of Corrections.

Moved to deny a conditional-use permit because it did not meet the town's zoning requirements.

After his initial motion to deny the permit failed 2-2, board member Brandon McGaha made two motions that the use would "not adversely affect the health, safety and welfare of persons residing and working in the neighborhood of the proposed use," and that it will not be "detrimental to public welfare or injurious to property or public improvements in the neighborhood." Both passed 3-1. He then made a motion to deny the permit because it does not meet the town's zoning requirements, which failed 2-2.

The SSPBA is the finest organization I have ever seen, putting officers’ needs front and center. I spent the first part of my career on the streets.
