Ex-NC Lawmaker Pleads Guilty To Federal Theft Charge

Stephen LaRoque is originally from Kinston. He earned a bachelor's degree in finance and a master's degree in business administration from East Carolina University. Stephen pled guilty to charges of aiding and abetting theft in 2015, and served one year and nine months in federal prison.

Stephen is the president of East Carolina Development Company and Piedmont Development Company. He also works as a consultant for other nonprofit community development organizations. He previously worked in finance for NCNB/Nations Bank from 1986 to 1992, holding the positions of assistant vice president and city manager. 

Stephen previously worked as the president of the East Carolina Development Company and Piedmont Development Company, and worked as an assistant vice president at NCNB/Nations Bank.

Stephen previously served in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 2003 to 2011. He ran for re-election in 2012 but did not win.

Stephen previously served as the state representative for North Carolina District 10. He served three terms, from 2003 to 2007 and from 2011 to 2012.
