He has an associate's degree in law enforcement and correctional science from Central Piedmont Community College as well as a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and master's degree in public administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He attends Saint Paul Baptist Church.

Professional background

George previously worked as a police officer. He served as a lance corporal, private first class, and sergeant in the United States Marine Corps for two years and later enrolled in the North Carolina Air National Guard and the Marine Reserves for 11 years.

Political background

George Dunlap is currently a member of the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners for District 3. He was first elected in 2008 and is serving his ninth term. Previously he served on the Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board.
