Mary Perkins-Williams received her bachelor's degree in business and library science from North Carolina Central University and her master's degree in librarianship from the University of South Carolina.

Mary currently works as the founder of the Northern Pitt County Improvement Association, a non-profit to develop communities. She previously worked as a librarian at East Carolina University.
