Lindsey Smith is from the mountains of North Carolina. She has a bachelor 27s degree in political science from Elon University and a law degree from the University of North Carolina. She and her husband, Bill, have a son. They live in downtown Carthage.

Lindsey is an attorney for the state of North Carolina. He previously served as the director of the North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission, where he investigated claims of innocence after conviction. He also teaches debate and mock trial classes and coaches the debate and mock trial teams at Sandhills Classical Christian School. Lindsey currently serves as a parent attorney for indigent clients in Moore and Hoke counties. He also served as a subject matter expert on evidence handling and storage best practices, teaching law enforcement and court personnel across the U.S. He has also served as a judge for Moore County Teen Court and Hoke County Teen Court. 

Lindsey is a parent attorney for the state of North Carolina. She previously served as a judge, director of commission, county commissioner appointee, and secretary. She has also been elected president of the North Carolina Association for Property and Evidence. 

Lindsey is currently a licensed attorney and has been practicing law since 2008. She has served as a judge for the Moore County and Hoke County Teen Courts.

Served as President of the NC Association for Property and Evidence from 2018 to 2021 and developed an evidence management class for clerks of court, teaching it in the US and Canada.

Co-organizer of the Carthage Holiday Historic Homes Tour.

- District Court judges hear civil, criminal, and juvenile cases. Civil cases dealing with divorce, child custody, and child support are heard in District Court. 
- Under the District Court, the magistrate can try small claims cases ($10,000 or less), landlord eviction cases, and suits for recovery of personal property. A magistrate is an independent judicial officer, recognized by the North Carolina Constitution as an officer of the district court.
