William "Bill" Wilke has lived in Canton, North Carolina since 1997. He and his wife, Shelia, have been married for over 25 years. They have two grown children together. 

William previously ran for Haywood County sheriff in 2022 but did not win.

William is the owner of a private investigation firm. He previously worked for the Asheville Police Department for 16 years, reaching the rank of lieutenant. During the 1990s, he was a police officer in Virginia and a trainer for the National Guard. He is also an Army veteran.

William is currently a member of the Haywood County Board of Commissioners. He was elected in 2022 and is serving his first term.

- The sheriff is responsible for enforcing the law, managing security in jails and courtrooms. They also oversee daily conditions of the jail and inmates in custody and serve legal documents such as warrants and eviction notices. Their ultimate responsibility is to protect the community.
