Mike Hager is originally from South Gastonia. He earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Mike volunteers for the Green Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

Mike has previously worked as the owner of Hager Strategic solutions, a public policy and government relations consulting firm, the owner of Highlands Builders, and as an engineering manager for Duke Energy.

Mike Hager is a former Republican member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 112. He was first elected in 2010 and served three terms (six years) in the chamber. During his time in office, he held leadership positions as Majority Freshman Leader, Majority Whip, and House Majority Leader before leaving his seat in 2016.
