Nigel currently works as a chief probation/parole officer with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. He previously worked as a probation and parole officer for the State of North Carolina and as a detective and police officer with the New York City Police Department. Nigel also served as a substitute teacher in the New York City public school system earlier in his career.

Nigel previously ran for the same office in 2024, but did not win. His also previously ran for Richmond County sheriff in 2022 but did not win.
