He attended Thomas Jefferson University, where he studied human resources, labor, and industrial relations, and also studied international business and business administration at the Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua. Jose lives in Dumas with his wife, Diana, and their three children.

Professional background

Jose currently works as a staff representative and Veterans of Steel coordinator for the United Steelworkers. He previously worked as a refinery worker and safety management representative at a Valero refinery and as a production supervisor at a meatpacking plant. Loya served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, completing two combat deployments to Iraq.
