Kardal Coleman is originally from Dallas. He studied Communication and Media Studies at Stephen F. Austin State University. He is a licensed minister and co-founder of The Liberation Fund, a nonpartisan civil and human rights nonprofit.

Kardal currently works as a senior advisor for the Texas House of Representatives. He previously worked as director of outreach for the U.S. House of Representatives and as manager of strategic initiatives for the City of Dallas. He served in the U.S. Army for more than eight years, including roles as a human resources manager and transportation logistics manager.

Kardal currently serves as chair of the Dallas County Democratic Party. He was elected to the position in 2022.
